WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump stands by his decision and refuses to sign legislation to keep the government running until February 8th. Claiming the essential need for a wall to protect our borders, Trump demands $5.7 billion for funding or warns us to prepare for a government shut down.
To make matters worse, the secretary of defense, Jim Mattis, resigns from his position. In his letter of resignation he writes, “Because you have the right to have a Secretary of Defense whose views are better aligned with yours on these and other subjects, I believe it is right for me to step down from my position.”
“The Trump temper tantrum may produce a government shutdown; it will not get him his wall,” says Senator Chuck Schumer of New York. Congress has until midnight tonight to pass spending bills that will fund several agencies and prevent us from going in that direction.
